A modified Mediterranean Diet meal plan has been shown to help people lose weight and most importantly, to keep the weight off. I personally have lost 40 pounds eating the Mediterranean Diet and have been able to keep the weight off for 2 years. The trick, for me, has been losing the weight slowly and only having to modify my diet slightly.

Depression is debilitating. I know, I have experienced it first hand, both in myself and with other family and friends. My Mother was severely depressed most of her life and I had some major bouts of depression when I was younger. What I didn’t know then, what I learned along the way, is that there […]
Not being able to poop is no laughing matter. Here are some general guidelines of how the Mediterranean diet can help relieve constipation.
Let’s face it, constipation is no fun. It is uncomfortable, painful and can be dangerous if it goes on too long. Luckily, most cases of constipation can be solved with a change in diet and exercise (for severe constipation, you should see your doctor). Some of my favorite recipes just happen to be excellent at relieving constipation. These are dishes that are high in fiber, fruits, vegetables and olive oil.

Are you spending a lot of time watching other people exercise? When I go to parties to watch sporting events, I notice that the food is usually Doritos, potato chips, M&M’s, processed dips, lite beer and sugary desserts. Try our traditional Mediterranean Diet meal plan that will show you foods that the people of the Mediterranean ACTUALLY eat. These recipes are very traditional foods from their respective countries and are eaten from childhood.
My first trip to Crete, the Greek island considered to be one of the healthiest places in the world, was the beginning of my education about the true Mediterranean Diet. This island has some of the highest longevity rates in the world and the men here live to be the same age as the women. As a matter of fact, when the first researchers went to Crete in the 1950’s they could only find one man on the island with any kind of heart disease.
The most asked question about the Mediterranean Diet is: “What do they eat for Breakfast?”. It’s easy to see why there is confusion. I probably have over 100 different cookbooks from all over the Mediterranean and rarely is there a section on breakfast. If you look on-line you will often find “Mediterranean Breakfasts”, but they are often far from what is actually eaten there. Here are 7 of our favorite traditional Mediterranean breakfasts.
When I first informed my friends and family that I would be studying abroad in Italy for a month to study the Mediterranean Diet, their initial response was, “What are you going to eat?” They all know I have been gluten-free (GF) for a year and while they were excited for my opportunity, it was clear that images of pizza, pasta, and grains were flying through their heads.
